TOUR DESCRIPTION


Day 1
Bangkok Behind the Scenes
Get ready for a day of exploring Bangkok on foot and by public transport. The tour will start when the guide meets you at your hotel and you will take a walk to the nearest sky train station. We will take the sky train to the Saphan Taksin Bridge which is the jumping off point for the boat pier on the Chao Phraya River. We will take a public river boat up river to Tha Tien where we will change to a cross river boat to see the iconic Wat Arun, after Wat Arun we will cross back over the river for Wat Po which is mostly well known for it's giant reclining Buddha image. We will re-board the public river boat for the ride to Pak Klong Talad the area famous for its flower and fruit market where we will take a walk amongst the street stalls selling a myriad of fresh fruit and flowers. We will board a tuk tuk for the ride to China town and our lunch venue. After lunch we will explore Pahurat Market on foot situated in the heart of "Little India". This is the place where many Bangkokians will shop for a great variety of fabrics, clothing and wedding keepsakes. While in the little India area we will pay a visit to Sri Gurusingh Sabha Temple, the place where the local Sikh population come to worship we will continue with a walk along the bustling Sampang Lane and it's a labyrinth of small alleys, here there are an incredible variety of stalls and shops selling cheap clothing and household goods and all sorts of everyday items. Our last leg of this tour will be a walk along the main Yawarat Road through the heart of the Chinatown district the road is lined with many gold shops, traditional Chinese medicine and herbalist shops, we will walk out of Chinatown to the Ratchawong pier for the public boat to the Saphan Taksin sky train station and back to your hotel.

Day 2
Floating Market at Damnoen Saduak and Grand Place
We will collect you from your Bangkok hotel and proceed south out of Bangkok towards Damnoen Saduak. On route to Damnoen Saduak we will stop to see the bustling fresh and seafood market at Mae Klong. This market sets up right on the rail tracks of a working railway line. Timetable allowing you will be able to see the amazing sight of the market stalls being pulled back only moments before the train passes! Before boarding the motorboat trip to the market we will stop at a small palm sugar home industry where you can see a demonstration of the palm sugar being made. We will travel to the floating market by motorboat and you will see many of Damnoen Saduak's back waters and quiet canals lined with traditional wooden housing and palm plantations. At the market you will be free to stroll up and down the canals edges or even jump in a paddle boat to get amongst the market action. On the return to Bangkok we will take lunch before proceeding to The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. The Grand Place offers a vibrant and eclectic collection of buildings which include  the Funeral Palace, Reception Palace, Throne Hall, Coronation Hall and the Royal Guest House, mostly built in a distinct Thai architectural style but European influenced architecture is also on show here. The highlight of the Grand Palace complex is Wat Phra Kaew with its stunning and vibrantly colorful temple architecture. The main Ubosoth of Wat Phra Kaew contains the most revered Buddha image in Thailand, the Emerald Buddha carved from a single piece of jade.

Day 3
Kanchanaburi and River Kwai Bridge
After pick up at your Bangkok hotel we will depart for the drive to Kanchanaburi province. On arrival in Kanchanaburi you will visit the informative Thailand Burma Railway Center, the best museum and resource to learn about the construction of the Death railway and river Kwai bridge, built by POW's and local laborers during the second world war. Opposite the museum you can visit the well kept cemetery home to the graves of just some of the thousands who died during the railways construction. After a visit to the War Cemetery, you will enjoy a scenic long-tail boat trip along the river to the famous Bride over the River Kwai. and then board the train for a ride on the railway. The railway trip will afford great scenic views of the countryside and river and you will cross many of the old bridges and viaducts. Following the train ride you will have a chance to see the famous Wampo viaduct and Krasae cave as well as taking the option to either visit Tiger Temple or ride elephants.

Day 4
Ayutthaya and Bang Pa In Palace
You will be picked up from your Bangkok hotel and we will leave the city for the one hours drive north to Bang Pa In Palace, this palace situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya was formerly used by Thai Kings and was originally constructed in 1632, however it lay unused and overgrown for most of the 18th and 19th centuries but was finally restored and added to by King Mongkut in the latter half of the 19th century, many of the presents buildings were constructed by King Chulalongkorn between 1872 and1889. Following the Palace visit we will proceed to Ayutthaya where the fist stop will be Wat Yai Chaimongkhol. We will then proceed to central Ayutthaya where most of the remnants and old temples can be found. We will spend the rest of the day visiting and exploring the temples in this area. The day will finish when we drive back to Bangkok and transfer you to your Bangkok hotel.

This tour is conducted as a privately escorted tour only. For a privately escorted tour you will be supplied with your own tour guide for yourself and your group of family or friends and will not join others.

Transfer
This tour includes transfer to and from your Bangkok Hotel. Please be ready and waiting in the lobby of your hotel before the pick up time specified on your booking confirmation. Please specify your hotel and its address on the booking form. If you do not have a hotel booked we can still process your booking but please inform us of your hotel at least 3 days prior to departure. For private tours we can arrange transfers to and from all hotels (an extra charge will usually be incurred for outlying hotels). If there are any issues with your specified hotel we will inform you before we ask for payment and process your booking. Please note on day 1 no transfer is included, however the guide will still come to meet you in the lobby of your hotel.

Accommodation

Insurance
A limited amount of accident insurance is provided to cover some medical bills in case of an injury but it is advised that you have your own comprehensive accident insurance.

Dress Codes and what to wear

• The Bangkok climate is hot all year round. Wear light, cool clothes but please bare in mind the dress code for the Grand Palace below (you may want to bring a change of clothes)

• Grand Palace Dress Code: Visitors are required to dress appropriately. These following clothes are strictly not allowed as outer garments for both ladies and gentlemen:

1.Shorts, mini-skirts, short skirts, tight fitting trousers, tight leggings and tights, (Long skirts lower than your knees are allowed.)
2.See-through shirts and blouses, as well as culottes or quarter length trousers
3.Sleeveless shirts or vests (T shirts are allowed)
4.Sandals (without ankle or heel straps)
5.Rolled-up-sleeved shirts
6.Sweatshirts and sweatpants, wind-cheaters, pajamas and fisherman trousers

Further Grand Palace dress code notes:
Long Trousers, pants are required, not just only the knee-leveled ones. Quarter length trousers cannot be worn.
No hole in any part of jeans, skirts, pants and trousers should be seen.
Scarves or shawl cannot be worn to cover your shoulders, a t-shirt or long sleeved shirt must be worn

• Please be prepared for the occasional shower, luckily in Bangkok rainfall is mostly confined to short showers rather than prolonged rainfall. a lightweight easily packable raincoat is an ideal precaution

• No swim wear is be required on this tour

Fitness
Exertion levels are medium on this tour and involves some walking along city streets in a hot tropical climate. There are steps and slopes as well as alighting to and from small boats.
